Northern France meets Northern Norway in an exciting musical landscape, when the versatile saxophonist Ola Asdahl Rokkones takes the jazz quintet Verøna on tour!

Somewhere between Shakespeare’s dream conception of Italy, Kenny Wheeler’s well-crafted compositions, and majestic Norwegian landscapes, Verøna has for over 10 years explored directions in European jazz, without haste and with reverence. The result is as dynamic and changing in the lightning as the northern Norwegian nature; occasionally poetic and occasionally groovy and energetic.

Although Verøna is based in Caen, they are very attracted and inspired by Nordic jazz – with a great focus on sensibility, timbre and timbre. Therefore, they also spell the band name with a Norwegian Ø, a letter that does not exist in French.

Rokkones, for his part, is a musician who has received international recognition for several of his releases and projects within a wide range of genres. The music we hear is original music, composed by pianist François Chesnel, trumpeter Samuel Belhomme, and saxophonist Ola Asdahl Rokkones. The tour is supported by Nordnorsk Jazzsenter, Norsk Jazzforum, CNM and Spedidam. This concert is presented in collaboration with Tromsøjazzklubben.
