DIY punk energy from South Africa
Genres: Punk / Garage rock
Twenty One Children has quickly become one of the most exciting names emerging from South Africa’s underground music scene. The trio channels punk’s raw immediacy through a distinctly Soweto perspective, mixing noise, humour, rebellion and infectious energy into something entirely their own.
Formed by friends Thula and Abdula together with drummer Biko, the band draws from a wide musical background shaped by gospel, kwaito, hip-hop, R&B and alternative music culture. But on stage, everything collides into fast, gritty and explosive punk songs delivered with sharp instinct and zero hesitation.
Their 2025 album After the Storm captures exactly what makes the band so compelling: catchy riffs, raw vocals, irreverent skits and a sense of chaos that never loses its heart. Beneath the noise lies a deeply rooted community spirit — from organising benefit shows to helping build local skate culture and creative spaces around them.
Twenty One Children represents the kind of music that grows from local scenes, friendships and pure necessity: loud, fearless and alive.
At Tromsø World 2026, the South African trio finally makes its long-awaited debut at Blårock, the perfect setting for a band built for intensity, sweat and total connection with the crowd.
