Dobrila & Dorian move through tradition with curiosity, sensitivity and fearless imagination. Since beginning their collaboration within the acclaimed Macedonian ensemble Čalgija Sound System, vocalist Dobrila Grašeska and multi-instrumentalist Dorian Jovanović have developed a unique musical language where ancient folk traditions dissolve into improvisation, ambient textures and experimental sound art.
Rooted in Macedonian traditional music and inspired by legendary regional vocal traditions, the duo transforms folk songs into deeply atmospheric and emotionally resonant journeys. Dobrila’s extraordinary voice moves between fragile stillness, ritual intensity and free melodic improvisation, while Dorian layers oud, electronics and looping textures into immersive sonic landscapes.
Across albums such as Apocryph, Pile šareno and the forthcoming Wind to Blow, the duo has continued expanding its sound, exploring not only music itself, but sound as memory, symbol and emotional space. Their work stretches far beyond conventional folk reinterpretation, drawing connections between Balkan traditions, ambient experimentation and spiritual storytelling.
