Colombia’s Future Sound of Cumbia

Genres: Cumbia / Tropical / Psychedelic / Latin

Frente Cumbiero stands at the forefront of Colombia’s contemporary cumbia movement, expanding the genre’s possibilities while staying deeply connected to its rhythmic roots. Through infectious grooves, adventurous arrangements and a constantly evolving sound palette, the band has become one of the most celebrated names in modern Latin American music.

Founded and led by Colombian producer, composer and musician Mario Galeano Toro, also known from acclaimed projects such as Ondatrópica and Los Pirañas, Frente Cumbiero moves effortlessly between traditional cumbia, psychedelia, experimental electronics and tropical dance music. Their music feels both archival and futuristic at once: deeply rooted in Colombian musical heritage while pushing toward new sonic landscapes.

Over the years, the band has collaborated with artists ranging from dub legend Mad Professor to Kronos Quartet and Japan’s Minyo Crusaders, reflecting an open and globally curious approach to music-making. Their live performances have brought them to major stages including Roskilde, WOMAD, Sónar, Fuji Rock and New York’s MoMA.

Live, Frente Cumbiero performs as a powerful quartet driven by percussion, brass and electronics, creating hypnotic tropical rhythms built for movement, sweat and collective joy.

At Tromsø World 2026, they bring one of the world’s most exciting cumbia live shows north for what promises to become a true dancefloor highlight of the festival.
