Desert blues for a new generation

Genres: Desert blues / Tuareg rock

Imarhan has emerged as one of the defining voices of a new generation of Tuareg music. Rooted in the musical traditions of the Sahara while embracing funk, rock, disco and subtle electronic textures, the Algerian band creates a sound that feels both timeless and forward-moving.

When their debut album arrived in 2016, international media quickly hailed them as a fresh force within desert blues, carrying the hypnotic guitar lines and flowing rhythms of Tuareg music into new sonic territory. While connections to legendary groups like Tinariwen are part of their story, Imarhan has steadily built a musical identity entirely their own: warmer, more playful and increasingly exploratory.

Led by frontman Iyad Moussa Ben Abderahmane (Sadam), the band balances hypnotic groove with powerful live energy. Their songs move between intimacy and celebration, driven by rolling percussion, intertwined guitars and a deep sense of collective spirit.

At the heart of Imarhan’s music lies a message of unity, community and human connection, values deeply embedded in Tuareg culture and carried into every performance.

At Tromsø World 2026, Imarhan brings desert blues into the northern night with a concert full of warmth, movement and euphoric energy.
